A crop listed at 70 days to maturity and planted on 1 May gets a target around 10 July. The surrounding window reminds you to begin checking before that date and to expect that cool weather, stress or a different variety can shift the actual harvest later.
A crop planted on 1 June with a 75-day maturity estimate points to mid-August. The calculator also shows a surrounding window because development is biological, not a countdown timer.
Days-to-maturity labels are useful for comparing varieties, but suppliers do not always measure them from the same starting point. Some figures are from sowing; others are closer to transplanting. Check the variety description when timing matters.
Temperature, daylight, water, fertility and transplant stress can shift the real harvest substantially. Use the calculated date to start watching the crop, then harvest according to maturity signs for that vegetable rather than the calendar alone.
Use the starting point used by the maturity figure when it is specified. If it is not, treat the result as an approximate planning date and watch the crop as the window approaches.
Garden development varies with weather and variety, so a range is more realistic than implying one exact day.
