Start broad, then replace defaults with variety-specific facts.

Spacing, indoor-start lead times and maturity values in the library are planning defaults rather than promises. A seed packet, nursery label, rootstock specification or reliable local recommendation can be more precise because it describes the actual variety or growing system in front of you.

Common regional aliases are normalized where practical. The current library contains 26 alias names, helping prevent records such as “zucchini” and “courgette” or “eggplant” and “aubergine” from being split into different plant identities.

PERENNIALS ARE DIFFERENT

A fruit tree is not just a vegetable with a longer maturity date.

Fruit trees, berries, vines and perennial herbs remain in the garden across multiple seasons. Their useful records are often establishment age, location, cultivar, training system and what maintenance actually happened. Tiny Mustard Seed therefore keeps them out of annual harvest-date assumptions unless a tool genuinely fits the plant.

The Perennial Register separates long-term plantings inside My Garden. A connected care history can record pruning, feeding, mulching, training, protection and inspections. Gardeners can set their own next-check date when they want a reminder, and those checks appear in the 7-Day Garden Brief.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What the Plant Library does—and does not do.

Are the planning values exact? No. They are broad defaults intended to start a calculation, not override variety-specific information.

Can I use regional plant names? Yes. Known aliases are resolved to a canonical plant name when possible while the original variety can still be recorded separately.

Can I compare cultivars? Yes. Harvest records can keep cultivar identity so two varieties of the same crop do not have to be combined.

Where is personal plant data stored? My Garden is local-first. Saved garden records live in browser storage and can be exported through the garden backup tools.
