An apple tree should not be planned from the cultivar name alone. Rootstock and training system strongly influence mature size, spacing and how the tree will be pruned, so the nursery label is part of the permanent garden record.
Allow for the mature canopy and the space needed to prune, mow, harvest or maintain neighbouring beds. A wall-trained tree, dwarf bush and vigorous standard are different design problems even when they carry the same apple cultivar.

Record cultivar, rootstock if known, planting date and training form when the tree is established. That information becomes more valuable over time because pruning and spacing advice often depends on tree form and vigour.
